Shepherds

Our shepherds care for the church here at Bammel, both in directional oversight and by caring for individuals and families. If you're a Bammel family member and you don't know which shepherd to speak with, contact us.

Jimmy and Becky Poindexter

Jimmy and Becky met their freshman year at Lubbock Christian University and were married in Jal, NM in 1977. After living 13 years in Hobbs, NM, they moved to Houston and began attending Bammel in 1997. Their daughters, Kaela and Lara, graduated from ACU and later two exceptional sons-in-law, Bill and Clark, and precious grandchildren were added to the family. Jimmy worked for a major service company in the energy industry for 30 years and then joined a small specialty chemical company in 2010. Becky worked as a ministry assistant in the Bammel church office for nearly 20 years. Jimmy enjoys being a part of Bammel’s Worship Team, as well as serving in several other ministries. They enjoy traveling, including frequent trips to Chicago and Dallas to visit their family. Jimmy has been a shepherd since 2007 and considers it a joy to serve God and a church family who have blessed him, and his family, beyond measure.

Alvin and Kandi Poole

Kandi and Alvin have been married since 1995. They have two (three) kids; Kiana, and Alvin, Jr. (AJ or just Alvin to him). Alvin and Kandi also raised their niece (and current Bammel member), Erie from the age of twelve on. Alvin has been a licensed physical therapist assistant for over twenty years.  For twenty or so years, Kandi has made her career teaching music and is currently a choir director.  They both consider their jobs as part of their Christian ministry due to having so much intimate contact with the people they serve.  Kandi and Alvin both grew up in Churches of Christ, with Kandi’s father serving as a long-time elder for one of the congregations here in Houston.  Alvin was a “small town country boy” splitting time between Hempstead, TX where he was born and lived until he was ten, then in Jasper, TX until he graduated high school.  The Poole’s have been attending Bammel since 2015 and literally “hit the ground running” when they arrived.  They have been involved in teaching parenting classes, Financial Peace University, some teen classes, and are actively involved in the praise team ministry and the People Helping ministry.
